A sold-out recital in Gran Canaria

On Saturday 10 October, Mariam performed at Santa Catalina Classics in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. The recital was the second chamber concert in the festival’s sixth edition, held in the Salones de Santa Catalina at Santa Catalina, a Royal Hideaway Hotel.

Tickets for the recital sold out on 28 September. It was the second concert in the series to sell out, after guitarist Pablo Sáinz Villegas opened the chamber concerts in September. Festival director Jorge Perdigón said the early sell-out showed that this intimate format had connected with the city.

The programme moved from Beethoven’s “Tempest” Sonata through Liszt’s Vallée d’Obermann and Waldesrauschen to Chopin’s Polonaise-Fantasy and the Nocturne in F-sharp minor, closing with three pieces by Debussy, including L’isle joyeuse.

Writing afterwards, the festival’s organisers at Barceló Hotel Group described an evening where “the rich sound and artistic honesty that characterise her performance” could be heard up close, in a warm setting that brought performer and audience together.
