About Mariam
Mariam Chitanava is a London-based pianist trained at the Moscow Conservatory and the Reina Sofía School of Music in Madrid. [One sentence on what she is known for: repertoire, sound, programming.] Born in Moscow in 1998, she began playing the piano at six, taught by her mother and aunt.
She entered the Lev Oborin Children's Music School in 2006, studying with Olga Filatova, and in 2013 joined the class of Farida Nurizade at the Central Music School of the Moscow Conservatory. In 2017 she became a student of Professor Elena Richter at the Moscow State P. I. Tchaikovsky Conservatory. In 2022 she began a master's degree at the Escuela Superior de Música Reina Sofía in Madrid, studying with Milana Chernyavska, Denis Lossev, Claudio Martínez Mehner and Marta Gulyás.
A prizewinner from a very early age, she took second prize at the [full name of the] Rubinstein Competition in Paris at eight, and has since won prizes at international and national competitions including the Scriabin Competition (Paris), Camillo Togni (Brescia), Igumnov (Lipetsk), Young Virtuoso (Zagreb), Yudina (St Petersburg) and Merci Maestro (Belgium).
She was selected for the preliminary round of the [year] International Chopin Piano Competition in Warsaw. She has studied in masterclasses with Nikolai Demidenko, Pierre-Laurent Aimard, Robert Levin, Ralf Gothóni, Luis Fernando Pérez, Imre Rohmann, Eldar Nebolsin and Denis Chefanov.
Chamber music is central to her work. As a student at the Reina Sofía she has performed with the Kegelstatt, Contrapunto BBDO, Ambage and Satie de Bain trios, the Granados Quartet, the Fundación Mutua Madrileña Ensemble, and the Contrapunto and Amy Beach duos. She has appeared at festivals including the Darius Milhaud Festival (Aix-en-Provence), the Rheingau Musik Festival, Orpheus (Moscow) and New Names, and has given concerts in Denmark, France, Germany, Italy, Russia and Spain. She has received scholarships from the Moscow Government and the New Names Foundation. Mariam performs solo recitals and chamber music, and teaches in London.
